Where can you go to experience an "art house film" in Northcentral Arkansas? The Ozark Arts Council and North Arkansas College are proud to announce the First Annual Spark International Film Festival. Spark showcases independent filmmakers from around the world and promotes film as an art form. This collaborative project will screen independent short films with a running time under 15 minutes in the historic Lyric Theater on June 20-21, 2008 at 6 p.m. Tickets to the event are $10 for one night or $15 for both nights. Friday, June 20 Schedule | Saturday, June 21 Schedule
A private opening reception will be held on Friday, June 20, 2008 at 9 p.m. Guests will have a chance to meet the judges and filmmakers. Tickets to the private reception are $30. Reservations are required and must be made by Monday, June 16, 2008, by calling the OAC at 870.391.3504.
Spark is a competitive event, and films were selected by a panel of jurors. Films were submitted to compete for a cash prize of $500. Selected filmmakers are invited to attend the festival and provide commentary following the screening of their film.
This year’s competition is proud to host distinguished film critic Jürgen Fauth of About.com. Mr. Fauth participated in the selection process. He has written about world and independent film for About.com since 1999 and is a member of the New York Film Critics Online. Mr. Fauth attended the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi. He holds a PhD in Creative Writing and an undergraduate degree in American Studies and Film.
