The “Magnolias,” with hearts of delicate southern petals and resolve of pure steel, will be portrayed by Mary Bishop, Gwen Gresham, Lisa Johnson, Abby Kops, Trish Lockridge and Julianna Stefanski.
Trish Lockridge will be remembered for multiple Theatre Company roles, especially for her comedic talents. She teaches full time, but still has found time to recreate her character, Truvy, owner of the beauty shop around which the action revolves. As the story opens, Truvy hires a new helper, Annelle, played by Abby Kops. Abby is a pianist and singer and this is her first venture into a non-musical play. It is a big day at the shop, for the belle of Chinquapin, Louisiana, Shelby Eatenton, is being married in the afternoon, and the creme de la creme have appointments. The role of Shelby goes to Julianna Stefanski, a Theater Company regular since the age of 15. Jewels has played Annelle in a previous production and starred in, The King and I, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Jekyll and Hyde to name only a few musicals. Her ability in comedy and drama is no less noted. Jewels has been performing professionally in Chicago and has returned recently to Arkansas. Shelby’s mother, M’Lynn is again created by Lisa Johnson, star of Theatre Company musical productions Mame, Secret Garden, Gypsy, and Annie, among others, and numerous comedies and dramas. Lisa is a professional whose voice you will recognize from the radio. Dr. Gwen Gresham, North Arkansas College’s Vice President of Learning again portrays Clairee, First Lady of Chinquapin. Gwen will be remembered for many wonderful performances in all types of plays, especially unforgettable to many fans, is her Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire. Mary Bishop, holds a Theatre Company Legends Award in recognition of more than 30 years of acting and directing. Mary is a founding member of the Theatre Company. She will again create the “curmudgeon,” Ouiser Boudreaux.
These “Magnolias” will bring you laughs, sighs, tears, and hope as Shelby’s life blossoms and fades. We hope you will join us for a southern meal, southern hospitality, and six wonderful Southern Ladies.
